Best practice: How handle user questions regarding a repository maintained in GitLab?

I am maintaining a repository that will soon see new users. I assume that many of them will have questions regarding its content. Where should those questions be “discussed”?

In GitHub one can use the “discussions” to discuss and ask questions about a “program” (repository). What is the best practice in GitLab? Since there is no discussion forum here, are repository owners supposed to add an issue tag for questions, if they want to do so, or is there a more sophisticated best practice for it?

I can also imagine using another software for tracking questions, but since GitHub has something for it, GitLab might as well.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this question!
