Best way to handle changing owner of organization account?

I’m trying to get an account set up for my company, and as far as I can tell, the only way to do this is to create an account and add groups to it. I was going to set up the owner account with my email, but I know I won’t always be the owner of the organization account. Can the email address on the owner account be changed in the future, without affecting the namespace? Is this the best way to set this up, or is there another way?

Hi @drothamel

Groups and projects can have more than one user with owner rights. Does that help?

Hi @snim2! Thanks for the reply!

Maybe? What about the account that is tied to the namespace? Can that account or email address be changed? Because what I’m thinking is that the namespace will be under my email, and I’ll set up all of the initial groups/subgroups/projects, but then the email of the account attached to the namespace is going to change at some point.

I really feel like GitLab should have a more straightforward way to create an organization account. lol.

So, one way to deal with this is to get the next person to join your group as an owner and then leave (this is essentially what we do, we have more than one owner so if one of us leaves, it’s fine).

AFAIK there isn’t really a concept of an organisation account, rather than a user account. That said, you can add and remove email addresses, which might be what you’re looking for.

Ok, that makes sense. That’s probably what we’ll do, as that makes the most sense, given the way GitLab works.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. Have a great day!
