Domain subfolder hosted in different site + Gitlab Pages

Hi everyone,

So I am hosting my single page static site on Gitlab Pages. I’ve also done some CNAME magicks following the tutorials so my domain is pointing to the Gitlab pages properly.

Anyway, it was suggested by our SEO expert that instead of having https://blog.mydomain.com, for the blog, it is much better SEO wise to make it a subfolder like so: https://mydomain.com/blog

Now our blog is a Ghost installation hosted in DigitalOcean. Subdomain was easy with another CNAME in DO, but what about subfolder? My only current solution would be to just move out of Gitlab Pages and host the single page landing site in DO as well then add nginx on top of it so it will be the one redirecting.

Is this thing possible with Gitlab Pages or should I just move my static site somewhere I can install nginx on?
