ERROR: Preparation failed: Unable to load image: gitlab-runner-prebuilt

Hi, I have some weird error from a ghost runner

ERROR: Preparation failed: Unable to load image: gitlab-runner-prebuilt: “open /var/lib/gitlab-runner/gitlab-runner-prebuilt.tar.xz: no such file or directory”

this happens randomly

And I am using latest version of all and gitlab ci from gitlab ee

Hi,

please always add the exact versions you are using - your post might help others in the future where “latest” is different then

Are you using Debian/Ubuntu for the runner host by chance? Then you might use workarounds listed here: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-runner/issues/1605

Cheers,
Michael

for the runner gitlab/gitlab-runner:alpine-v12.10.0-rc2 and helm chart 0.16.0-rc1

I do not know if you can see this https://gitlab.com/BICE_Vida/lab/bv-platform/-/jobs/520822514

Hi,

does the error go away after switching the runner image to the stable tags instead of the RC? Also, an option may be to investigate on whether the Alpine runner can be exchanged with Ubuntu being the new default.

Cheers,
Michael

no, actually the error went away when I remove shared runners
