I wanted to open an issue in an open source project, and so created an account with SSO. I expected that this would be very quick so that I could do what I actually wanted (create an issue), but instead I was redirected to the group/project creation tutorial with no option to skip. I tried the suggestion of closing browser/clearing site data, which allowed me to access my user dashboard, but trying to open an issue on a project redirected me back to the project creation tutorial. This also impacted viewing the issues discussing account creation.
This seems to have been discussed in eg. issues 337594 and 299983, so I have to assume that this is the intended behavior. However, they seem to assume that the user’s goal is to trial gitlab for their team and do not consider other users.
In my case, I expected a flow like “try to open issue > click SSO button > continue with issue”, but instead was completely sidetracked by trying to debug gitlab new account system. I hope this perspective can motivate a less rigid and onerous account creation pathway.
