GitLab docker container can't see proper host ip in clone repo setting

Hello,

We have been running our Gitlab instance in Docker for a couple of years now and we need to upgrade the host it is running on. During this transition, I would like switch to docker compose to facilitate our container configs, so I want to make a proof-of-concept before modifying our prod instance. My following compose.yaml for installing Gitlab looks like

gitlab:
        container_name: gitlab
        image: gitlab/gitlab-ce:latest
        restart: always
        ports:
           - '8080:80'
           - '8443:443'
           - '8022:22'
        environment:
            GITLAB_OMNIBUS_CONFIG: |
                gitlab_rails['ldap_enabled'] = true
                gitlab_rails['ldap_servers'] = {
                    'main' => {
                        'label' => 'DAMLAB Active Directory',
                        'hosts' =>  [['LABDC01.damlab.local', 389],
                                    ['LABDC02.damlab.local', 389]],
                        'uid' => 'sAMAccountName',
                        'base' => 'OU=DAMLAB Users,DC=DAMLAB,DC=local',
                        'encryption' => 'plain',
                        'active_directory' => true,
                        'user_filter' => 'memberOf=CN=LabUsers,OU=DAMLAB Security Groups,DC=DAMLAB,DC=local',
                        'attributes' => {
                            'username' => ['uid', 'userid', 'sAMAccountName'],
                            'name' => 'cn',
                            'first_name' => 'givenName',
                            'last_name' => 'sn'
                        },
                        'lowercase_usernames' => true,
                        'verify_certificates' => true,
                        'bind_dn' => 'CN="labdocker",OU=Service,DC=DAMLAB,DC=local',
                        'password' => 'test1234'
                    }
                }
        volumes:
           - /srv/gitlab/config:/etc/gitlab
           - /srv/gitlab/logs:/var/log/gitlab
           - /srv/gitlab/data:/var/opt/gitlab

When Gitlab is running, and I want to clone a repository I see a weird string instead of hostname - I think it is the container’s id?

I need to change this to proper DNS hostname so that I can properly clone the repo. For this instance, I was thinking my string should look like
git@labdocker_temp:fahughes/franklin-test-project.git
but maybe the host’s port, 8022, needs to be included as well?

Reading through the documentation, I have been unsuccessful to replicate the string I am after. I thought I needed to update my compose.yaml to include the following

external_url 'http://labdocker_temp.damlab.local'
gitlab_rails['gitlab_shell_ssh_port'] = 8022

but this causes my container to fail when starting? Looking at the logs, I think the error message is
error=badgateway: failed to receive response: dial unix /var/opt/gitlab/gitlab-rails/sockets/gitlab.socket: connect: connection refused method=GET
