Gitlab SaaS - Windows - SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate in certificate chain

Started 2023-12-13 (working for years before this) two windows runners (in disconnected environments with completely seperate policies as they are different companies) started failing with

fatal: unable to access 'https://gitlab.com/reponamehere': SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate in certificate chain

Using Gitlab SaaS

Tried re-running, but haven’t been lucky. Have searched google and found an Atlassian article here SSL certificate problem: self-signed certificate in certificate chain error in GIT | Bitbucket Cloud | Atlassian Documentation but I haven’t messed with the git config options on those boxes as it’s hard for me to get access to these machine

Other notes

  • The SSL cert for Gitlab.com seems to have been changed 2023-12-13

Both of the issues started working again. Looks like something cert wise changed on gitlab’s side, still not clear what but I’m glad we’re up and running.

Thanks for reporting. There was an incident with TLS certificate problems. 2023-12-13: GitLab.com certificate changed (#17265) · Issues · GitLab.com / GitLab Infrastructure Team / production · GitLab

That was it! Thank you @dnsmichi , I swear I checked the outage page but maybe I didn’t
