I’ve recently updated gitlab to the current version (9.2.5) and wanted to set up the “reply by email” feature.
I’ve followed two tutorials which worked perfectly well but I have a strange situation now which I don’t quite know how to resolve.
- Gitlab runs on my own server. This server has no mail server installed.
- Gitlab is configured to use my Gmail account to send outgoing emails via SMTP, using my primary address (firstname.lastname@example.org - google business account with individual domain)
- Gitlab is configured to receive messages over my primary address (email@example.com)
After testing the setup, using
Notify.test_email('firstname.lastname@example.org', 'Message Subject', 'Message Body').deliver_now I have received an email which github immediately picked up and returned to the same address stating that it doesn’t quite know what to do with it (which is expected). This email now got picked up by gitlab, to which it replied the same as above. This reply got picked up, etc…
How do I avoid this loop?
Do I have to use two different emails for this to work?
Thank you in advance for any tips.
