Is the warning to not use EFS for HA still applicable?

We’re looking to setup GitLab for High Availability (HA) and specifically for NFS there are warnings against use of AWS EFS.
Is it known when these warnings were raised in the documentation, whether they are still valid and whether it relates to specific thresholds of frequency/volumes of commits/second, etc.?
