I proceeded to the removal of several large files from the repository using git filter-repo, then I uploaded the commit-map file and the reported size shrinked from 284 Mb to 787 Kb. However, the current statistics are a bit off, as the displayed size is different than the size of the exported project (.tar.gz), which is about 3 Mb. I read in the docs that in this case, I should ask a GitLab administrator to force an update.
