Symbol part of the file name being replaced by "_"

Hi, I’m new to gitLab.

Assumption

  • My team usually uses Japanese, and I’m assuming that this problem is a character encoding issue specific to non-English speaking countries, such as Japanese.
  • I would like to know if you have any idea about the cause of the problem or how to solve it.

Contents

  • My company has recently decided to manage our Japanese forms files on gitLab.
  • I uploaded the following file name to gitLab.
    • List of Subjects (●● General Manager)-Sample.xlsx
  • That is how the uploaded file name looked like.
    • List of Subjects___Director_-Sample.xlsx
  • The “●●” is “foobar” in Japanese. Example: baseball player Otani ●●.

I have already created a program to customize the file by replacing this “___” with the name of the department head, so I don’t want to change the file name if possible.

What I have tried

  • I think this is the English site that explains the character encoding and English about ●.
    ● - Wiktionary, the free dictionary
  • I have looked at the documentation and some Japanese information sites, but I couldn’t find anything that talks about using symbols in the file name.

Finally

Thanks for reading. I would be happy to get some information.
I’m new to the gitLab forum, let me know if there are any etiquette violations.
Also, sorry for my poor English
