Upgrade source from 11.0.6 to 11.11.8

Hello,
I’m upgrading the gitlab-ce from 11.0.6 to 11.11.8 version and I have a problem.
The 11.0.6 version is running on the Debian 8, now I upgraded that Debian to buster release and I have problem with upgrading gitlab-ce from version 11.0.6 to version 11.11.8. When I typed

sudo -u git -H git fetch --all --prune

It fetched the repo and i don’t see the 11.11.8 version so i can’t upgrade to that version

What is wrong with the upgrade instruction? I was working with upgrade instruction located at:
https://docs.gitlab.com/ce/update/upgrading_from_source.html
How to fetch the 11.11.8 version so I will be able to upgrade to that version?

Hi,

a git fetch command only fetches new branches and tags, and won’t update any existing ones. In order to see a list of available tags to checkout, please use git tag.

Example:

➜ gitlab git:(master) git tag | egrep '^v11\.8\..*'

Once you have found the correct version to use, you can use git checkout <tagname> to checkout the specific tag and commit.

I would also recommend to upgrade and then change to the omnibus package setup, making upgrades more convenient.

Cheers,
Michael
