Upgrading Existing Group to GitLab Gold

We have had our GitLab group for free for a while now. This we have applied for the GitLab Education Gold and got accepted. We are currently struggling to add that promotion to our existing group instead of creating a new one. Is there a way to do this @chupy?

Hi @rokasgie - Welcome to the GitLab for Education Program! Thanks for the question.

You will need to link your GitLab.com Gold subscription to your GitLab account in the Customer Portal.

Please do the following:

  1. Log into the customer portal using your email address.
  2. Navigate to Manage Purchases.
  3. Select Change linked groups
  4. Select the desired group from the This subscription is for dropdowns .
  5. Select Proceed to checkout.

After the GitLab group is associated with your subscription, you are able to authenticate the group:

  1. Click on “Edit” over a subscription.
  2. You’ll be redirected to GitLab.com for OAuth login.
  3. At this point, you need to make sure you’re logging in using the account you want to license on GitLab.com.
  4. Please select the Group you want to license then click onto “Update”

This should promote your groups under the group namespace. Alternatively, if you need to change the linked account here is the documentation.

I’m happy to answer any follow-up questions if this does not resolve the situation. If you need to communication any private information please email education@gitlab.com and our team will assist there as well!

Hi Christina,

Many thanks for your help. I have tried to follow the instructions below, but at

Point 5. Select Proceed to checkout.

I can’t seem to proceed without entering credit card details. Although I understand the balance is zero, I’m not comfortable entering my private credit card details. Do you have any suggestions for how to proceed?

Many thanks,

John Chick

@chupy could you help us out with this?

Hey @rokasgie and @JohnChick

I might be able to help you with this one. As a GitLab Select Channel Partner I can act as a “reseller” and deal with the commercials directly with GitLab on your behalf - even though the transaction amount is zero. Let me know if this would be of value to you and I can send you my email address.

@chupy, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong?

Best
Kevin

Hi John,

Thanks for checking back in. You should not need to enter your credit card details.

I’m sorry I missed this message! If you use the @chupy in the future, I will get an alert and be able to respond faster.

Can you please email education@gitlab.com with your account details (name of the University) and account holder for our Customer Portal and I can look up your subscription and make sure everything is all set? This will also open a ticket in our system to make sure we find a resolution.

Thanks!

Christina

Hi @kevin.anderson - We do not need a reseller in this case but thanks.
