Dear forum,
I was recently part of a self hosted Gitlab repository at my old university, but since I am not working there any longer I don’t have access to my old account anymore. This is unfortunate since I might want to revise my old project.
So my question is this: is it possible to add a normal user of gitlab.com to a self-hosted repository? Is there an alternative workaround?
I found the opposite question here, but thought this might still be possible.
Thanks in advance,
Martin
Hi Martin, welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s possible unless your account on the universitiy’s instance is still active and you have access to it.
The only thing I can think of as an alternative would be to contact the admin at your old university to either explicitly give you external access to your old project as a guest user, or for them to use the export feature for you to then import your old project to gitlab.com.
Thanks for the answer!
Unfortunately the old account isn’t active and exporting the project isn’t an option since there are several other people still working on it at the university. So perhaps external access is the only way, but I am not sure whether the they will agree to this since I am no longer working there… Anyway, good to know my options.
