Question about the GitLab can no longer service in Mainland China, Macao, and Hong Kong

Hi all and sorry to bother all of you. I received some messages about GitLab can no longer service accounts for individuals and organizations located in Mainland China, Macao, and Hong Kong. You must complete the transition by 18-02-2025, after which GitLab will delete your account from our systems.

May I know is it true? I cannot find any official announcement in GitLab.

Thank you.

I have received the same email today. I wanted to know more about it as well. Thanks!

This is an official message from GitLab. However, this change only impacts FREE Gitlab.com (SaaS) users who are located in Mainland China, Macao, and Hong Kong and only such users should receive this messaging.

Is there any way to keep at least one account of my group, for backup purpose only.

Hi,

I’m a French expatriate in China. I will leave China and be back in France next July.
I received the message about accounts for individuals and organizations located in Mainland China’ message.
As my long-term address is not in Mainland China, Macao, or Hong-Kong how may I have this account restriction removed until the end of July, 2025?

Thank you!

Then how can we run global project which has team members from these regions?
It also can be translate like only users from China are forced to pay for their account, isn’t this racism?

We are impacted by this issue, and to make things worse, JiHu seems not to be providing a free tier for their SaaS offering. I thought GitLab would be more open (at least compared to GitHub) to users around the world, but I’m really disappointed to find out that I was wrong.
