In my git project, my historical commits have been performed using a capitalized email address (e.g. “JohnDoe@example.com”). There’s not a good reason for it; it’s just how the system was configured initially, and I never changed it.
We’re looking at switching to GitLab, and I discovered that the system automatically uncapitalizes any email addresses entered into it, which means that the author email address on any merges or other commits made through GitLab will be inconsistent with my author information of any git commits made directly from my machine.
I realize this isn’t a critical issue, but it is helpful to have the author details be consistent across commits, plus it’s distracting when it isn’t.
Am I correctly understanding that there isn’t a way to include capital letters in the GitLab commit email address?
