Original clone URL still accessible after project transfer

Version: GitLab Enterprise Edition 15.8.1-ee

I transfered a project from a group namespace Parent group to a nested one Parent group / Nested group.

I was expecting the original clone URL to be disabled but it’s not as cloning with that URL still works.

Moreover, the warnings clearly state:

You will need to update your local repositories to point to the new location.

Does Gitlab kept the reference for backward compatibility or is it because the transfer was done in a nested group?

GitLab keeps a redirect in place when moving projects. You can see that by accessing the old URL to the project in the browser - the redirect happens automatically and adds a banner on top. The same applies to git clone URLs. This is explained in more detail here.
