Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS - LVM (Logical Volume Manager)

O/S: 20.04.4 LTS
Install: On-Prem
Hello,
I woke up this morning and forgot to push a commit but it failed with a vague error. On a hunch I checked the servers storage (LVM) and it was at 100%. This server is cut off from the internet and no updates have been applied. I tried signing into gitlab but was getting an error that it could not connect. When I expanded the LVM to use the MAX allowed on the VM disk and reset gitlab. I was able to access and push my commits like normal.

My Question: What is gitlab doing that it ate up so much space ? Is there anything I can do to minimize the eating of disk space ? Disable some logs, disable other things ? etc.
Which logs should I look at to see this type of behavior ?
I am still new to gitlab so please forgive me.

Thank You
