Unable to delete project

I created a project.
Then I created the readme file and commit the file.
At this stage, s far there is only a readme file online.
Above is all done online.

At this point nothing has been push to cloud yet.
Then on laptop side, I did this:

$ git push -u origin master
Username for ‘https://gitlab.com’: friendoffatbeagle
Password for ‘https://friendoffatbeagle@gitlab.com’:
To https://gitlab.com/suername/someProjectname.git
! [rejected] master -> master (fetch first)
error: failed to push some refs to ’ https://gitlab.com/username/someProjectname.git
hint: Updates were rejected because the remote contains work that you do
hint: not have locally. This is usually caused by another repository pushing
hint: to the same ref. You may want to first integrate the remote changes
hint: (e.g., ‘git pull …’) before pushing again.
hint: See the ‘Note about fast-forwards’ in ‘git push --help’ for details.

Above problem is also described here:

Looks like there is no solution!

Alternative is to delete the project.
I went into Settings and scroll to bottom.
then clicked Remove Project and got a popup window.
But when ever I hover over the “Confirm” button, there is a STOP sign
indicating Confirm is not allowed.

How to I FORCE a project delete since I can no longer push my master file to this repository?

To fix your branch…

# git fetch origin
# git reset --soft origin/master

now you should have any changes unstaged and ready to change or commit again.

On the other hand.to delete the project you have to use the gitlab web frontend. Select Project and while on the project pane go to Setting (last item on the left side-bar menu). You’ll see the delete option on the right pane.

It still does not allow me to delete the project!

To delete a project,

  • Click on the Settings tab on the sidebar when you are on your project page
  • Scroll down to the Remove Project section
  • The STOP sign when you hover on the Confirm button is because to confirm, you need to re-enter the name of the project on the textbox so you can delete. The stop sign clears once you have entered the name of the project. Please read the instructions on the modal more clearly before carrying out any action

Now that that is out of the way, I would love to help you solve your previous error since this is something that should not happen, see my comment on the thread you’ve linked: Adding in README page to project causes error in pushing new changes

Note that if you added some more changes to the online i.e. on GitLab as I understand, you need to pull this changes to your local machine so that the new changes you effected on the online/remote repo are now in your machine and that is why you are getting the error you have highlighted:

hint: Updates were rejected because the remote contains work that you do
hint: not have locally. This is usually caused by another repository pushing
hint: to the same ref. You may want to first integrate the remote changes
hint: (e.g., 'git pull ...') before pushing again.

@aram535 comment above helps you to get around this. We would be delighted in knowing that we have helped you solve the error, that said please be a bit gentle with us and check out our community GuideLines

I see the problem now.
The border for the box to enter the title of project is ONE pixel thick. So it is hard to see for some.
May be gitlab should consider making those type of lines 2 or more pixels thick.
That would improve accessibility a whole lot.

@kelvinmutuma did you mean to send that comment to me?
