What is the standard way of handling personal/work accounts on GitLab?

I’m coming from Bitbucket and one thing that is nice about their setup is that I can have a single account (let’s call it my personal Bitbucket account) but be added to my business team and repositories as an administrator. Also, I can add my work email as an alias, allowing me to commit at me@personal.com or me@business.com.

I’ve only been using GitLab since Friday, but it appears that I’m expected to maintain two accounts to gain similar functionality. Is that true?
