Community, first steps: Explore Discourse with discobot

When you join this lovely community, the Discourse platform may lend a hand and guide you with the first steps: How to create a topic, quote, formatting, likes, etc.

You’ll recognize the notification in the upper right corner and learn about discobot, a gentle tutorial bot which helps you in an interactive tutorial :heart_eyes:

No more spoilers, try it out! Only one thing - you can earn a badge for completing the tutorial with discobot.

Tip

Once you’ve completed the basic tutorial, start the advanced tutorial with @discobot start advanced tutorial in the same direct message. This grants you a second badge :sunglasses:

It’s distinctly possible that I’m missing something, but as far as I can tell so far, it isn’t possible for a new user (lacking ‘Basic’ permission) to send a private message to a user. I understand I’m supposed to be able to click on a user’s avatar and see a ‘mail’ icon, but no such icon appears:

After some searching, I have discovered an explanation for the ‘trust levels’ and how to get promoted to basic trust (“Entering at least 5 topics, Reading at least 30 posts, Spend a total of 10 minutes reading posts”), but I thought I should point this out here for future users who might be confused about this as well.
