Gitlab Migrate from AMZ 1 16.0.8 to AMZ 2023 17.x.x

Migrating our old gitlab-ce omnibus instance in an AMZ1 AMI instance to the v17.x.x with AMZ 2023.

Is this possible in one go? What would be the most appropriate steps or route to take in the migration process?

  • Should i install a v17.x.x and migrate data from 16.0.8 directly? Is this possible?
  • Should i install gitlab on a separate instance with AMZ2023 and SAME VERSION then migrate data from old AMZ1 and then after migration do the upgrade path? Upgrade Path
  • Does switching to x86 to xArm processor make any significant impact?

I’m in the process of creating a seperating instance with AMZ 2023 with the 17.x.x version and start from there.
