Mergue Request Import Wrong User Comments

After exporting a project from one instance of gitlab to another, I get all Merge Request as opened by the one who imported the proyect, and all the comments on each merge request are done as well, by the person who imported the project.
The users are correctly recognized in the Commit list.

Is there a way to solve this? or is it by design like that?

Any updates on this? I’m also running into this as well.

The documentation here: Import your project from GitHub to GitLab | GitLab suggests that merge request owners will be properly preserved, but all merge requests are owned by me.
