Highlighted code - color adjustment possible?

I have a question regarding the color theme of the text written in comments for example.
I am using a self-managed GitLab version.

My problem:

I have this text:

The end result is this:

I barely can see the highlighted word (code). I found the last version (with red font) better for the eyes  .

Would like to ask if there is a way to adjust the color of the code highlighted text?.

Did anyone ever reply to you about this?

I know that Github when you use md actually will highlight text in a grey background with reddish/pink text, which is visibly appealing.

I am looking for a way to set the color for text in my personal Gitlab gitlab-ce-12.10.6 servers’ README.md files. Not finding anything that works.
