Introduction: Arto Teräs / LRZ

My name is Arto Teräs (GitLab username: @Teraes). I work as a system administrator at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ), located in Garching near Munich, Germany.

Since October 2015, we have been running a local GitLab installation that is used by professors, researchers, and students from numerous universities and academic institutions in Munich and the region of Upper Bavaria. Getting started with GitLab is very easy for our users because they can simply log in using their preexisting academic user accounts. Researchers using our flagship supercomputer SuperMUC-NG also manage their software code on the LRZ GitLab instance.

We currently have about 15,000 active users who have 40,000 projects that use around 10 TB of data, including repositories, containers and Git LFS files. In addition to research and individual student projects, GitLab is increasingly being used for teaching as well. We have recently migrated to the GitLab Ultimate edition under the Education license in order to enable the complete set of features to our users.

I am curious as to whether some of our users will present their projects on this forum as well.

If any students are interested in sharing their work, please encourage them to GitLab Student Spotlights program!

Hello @Teraes! Welcome to the GitLab Forum! We are so happy to have you here. Your work sounds absolutely amazing.

Also we just launched a 2020 GitLab for Education survey. We’d love your feedback to help shape the future of DevOps in Education!

We are always looking to highlight the amazing work of our program members. We just published a Case Study with Dublin City University. It maybe of interest to those who are using GitLab for teaching.

Feel free to reach out with any questions!
