Gitlab.com Account Blocked - need help

@Tristan, adding you here since you have responded to similar problems of other users in the past.

Following is the email I sent to the support via the official channels, and I haven’t gotten any useful responses, yet, except for the template responses like “we’ve received your request; have you tried resetting 2FA codes?”.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Email to support follows:

Dear Support folks,

It looks like I may have inadvertently violated some terms of use of Gitlab.com, I’m not sure. Or someone may have tried to take over my account and repeated login failures may have locked the account; again, not sure since the error message does not provide any details. Please let me know how I can reinstate my access to the account, and what I can do to prevent this from happening again.

Couple of alternate reasons I can think of may be that I have slowly started migrating my repos from Github.com to Gitlab.com, so I usually clone those repos into Gitlab. Or it may be that I have a few of my repos using Gitlab Pages feature with some slightly advanced usage. Or my use of Gitlab-CI may have been an issue, but those are pretty simple jobs, so I don’t think that could be the reason.

When trying to push to a repo of mine I received the error message “Your account has been blocked” (see [1]), and when trying to log into the gitlab.com website I get the error message “Your account has been blocked. Please contact your GitLab administrator if you think this is an error”.

My user id is ‘gurjeet’ and the associated email email address is gurjeet@singh.im. Please feel free to reach out to me at that address or at singh.gurjeet@gmail.com.

@gurjeetsingh Thanks for the ping and welcome to the forum! :tada:

If your GitLab.com account has been blocked for any reason then I won’t be able to divulge any details about it on our public forum here, for security reasons. This type of matter will need to be resolved via a support ticket. What is the number of the ticket you submitted?

Hi @Tristan,

Thanks for responding! I believe the ticket number is 160650 for the help I requested over email, and a previous request I made via the web-based support form is assigned the number 160648.

Thanks again for taking a look at the issue.

Best regards,

Gurjeet Singh

Hi @Tristan,

I can understand that sensitive issues cannot be discussed in public forums; I own a service at my company and can fully appreciate gravity of these kinds of issues.

I haven’t heard any updates on the Support tickets I raised, so perhaps you can bring those to the notice of appropriate folks. I would appreciate any kind of response on the issue, rather than the silence currently I’m getting from Support.

Best regards,
Gurjeet Singh

Hey @gurjeetsingh, I haven’t forgotten about you! I’ve been checking around internally on this and will be replying to your ticket later today. Hang tight.

Thank you @tristan! I saw your update on merging the two tickets into one. I appreciate the updates as well!

@Tristan,

I’m happy to note that as of this morning my account has been reinstated. Thanks for all your help!

At this point I am still engaged with your team to understand why my account was blocked in the first place. I was locked out for over a week, and it’d be great to understand the root-cause so that I can prevent it in the future.

Best regards,
Gurjeet Singh

Hi, the same here!
When I trying to log in, then I got “wrong password” (the password is correct), after next try I got 404 error, and also 403 sometimes.

If I try to log in with GitHub / Google I get 500 error!

Any git action is giving me:

fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please help me!
These are my support tickets 164730, 164594, 164585

Thanks. For future readers, please go ahead and follow the linked instructions with either manually requesting a confirmation email (did that myself). In case this does not work, please contact our support team, also explained in the thread.

Closing here.
