Dear GitLab Support,
I need a “Group Access Token” for one of my projects, and I couldn’t create a project access token due to this permission from a group level.
I followed the guide to enable group access token permission. Still, I couldn’t find this permission as stated in the documentation “Users can create project access tokens and group access tokens in this group.”
I tried with all the other groups as well. It’s for the same. There’s no option for me to turn it on at a group level.
Could anyone please guide where I can find it?
Thank you.

Thanks, @robjampar. Have you found any workaround? Is it a known bug of GitLab?
@escapepixel
Are you using GitLab.com SaaS or self-managed? If self-managed, which version of GitLab is involved (https://gitlab.yourdomain.com/help
as sub URL unveils the version).
The documentation says that group access tokens on GitLab.com SaaS are available in the Premium tier, maybe this is the reason why the option is missing.

By “change”, do you mean that an upgrade from an older GitLab version was performed? If yes, can you share more details please?

@dnsmichi,
We are using “GitLab SaaS” and are on the “Free tier”. That could be the reason. My bad. We have no choice but to upgrade, I guess.
@dnsmichi we are on the GitLab SaaS free tier - but this was available to us a month ago so something has changed recently.
For my customer I’m doing an evaluation if switching to GitLab. I activated a 30-days Utlimate Trial. But I can’t find the permission “Users can create project access tokens and group access tokens in this group.” either. I therefore can’t use project access tokens at all. I don’t find any information about that on the documentation page. Also on the documentation page I don’t see any hints that Project Tokens are a Premium / Ultimate feature at all:
(The tier information is missing)
The documentation explains the availability of group access tokens. They are not available in a trial license.
You can use group access tokens:
- On GitLab SaaS if you have the Premium license tier or higher. Group access tokens are not available with a trial license.
- On self-managed instances of GitLab, with any license tier. If you have the Free tier:
Project access tokens are also not available in a trial, according to the documentation.
Thanks @dnsmichi, it seems I didn’t read til the end.
Just wonder why it is like that. I thought the trial was for a trial of Premium/Ultimate features. Due to that limitation, I could not evaluate our workflow.
I’m not entirely sure, looking at the trials details it also mentions CI/CD minute limits. Could be related to resource usage limits. I’d suggest reaching out to GitLab sales teams who will be able to assist better.
