Impossible to create access token

I’m logging in as the Owner of the groups and projects I have.

Problem to solve

I need to create a access token;

I tried to create a Project Level access token;
UI displays:

Project access tokens
Project access token creation is disabled in this group. You can enable project access token creation in group settings. You can still use and manage existing tokens. Learn more.

Active project access tokens
0
Token name
Scopes
Created
Last Used
The last time a token was used
Expires
Role
Action
This project has no active access tokens.

So I go to Group level settings access token it displays below;

Group access tokens
Group access token creation is disabled in this group. You can enable group access token creation in group settings. You can still use and manage existing tokens. Learn more.

Active group access tokens
0

??? So how do I create a access token??? Why is this so complicated? I spent an hour on this and couldn’t get anywhere. Really bad experience!!!

Steps to reproduce

Follow the text above

Configuration

Provide screenshots from the GitLab UI showing relevant configuration, if applicable.
On self-managed instances, add the relevant configuration settings or changes.

Versions

Please add an x whether options apply, and add the version information.

  • Self-managed
  • GitLab.com SaaS
  • Dedicated

As per the docs: Group access tokens | GitLab

which then leads to wanting to use project access token instead of group access tokens, so: Project access tokens | GitLab

therefore unless you have a subscription you cannot use group or project access tokens on gitlab.com - in this case you will have to use personal access tokens which you create in your user profile. Free users do not have the ability to use either unless you are running your own private installation of gitlab, eg: self-managed.

Thanks @iwalker you are a saviour man.
